Miranda's First Haircut

This week Matt has been watching Miranda and her friend Jack because thier babysitter has been sick.  Matt has really enjoyed himself doing this.  Today he had Miranda only because Jack started  to run a fever last night, so as a special outing Matt took Miranda to get her hair cut. She did such a great job in the process. Miranda looks so cute and grown up now. I am looking forward to Miranda's next big steps but kinda sad to see her growing up so quickly.

Oatmeal Bath

Things have been a little unfortunate for Miranda lately.  Two weeks ago she started to run a fever and tug at her ear, signs of an ear infection. Sure enough when we brought her in the doctor said she had a double ear infection and prescribed Amoxicillin. She also suggested we get an appointment for her to see an ENT.  Well after about 8 days on Amoxicillin, which was this past Wednesday, Miranda breaks out in a terrible rash head to toe.  This rash really scared me, I have never seen any rash spread as quickly as this one did. It started out as a few spots on her stomach then spread to hives covering her whole body and her ears were as red as a tomato.  We went to the doctor and found out that she is carrying out the Semanek family tradition of being allergic to penicillin. The doctor gave her benedryl and steroids to help control the rash. The rash has gotten some better but has not completely cleared up.  So today we decided to try the oatmeal bath to see if this would soothe her and help with the rash.  I think it is working some.  I have posted pictures here to give you an idea of what the rash is like. I am just praying it is gone by Monday, if not it looks like we may be making another doctor visit.

Update again

It has been a while since I have updated. This blogging thing is hard to keep up with.  Things have been pretty good since the last update.  I am secretly doing the Love Dare for Matt and its working well.  I went to a Womens Retreat with Southeast Church of Christ and it was wonderful.  Miranda had her new life celebration at First Colony.  She is such a beautiful baby. I cant believe it has been almost one year since I had her.  Thinking of that right now makes me very happy and sad at the same time.  Right now my heart goes out to a friend who lost her baby today. This friend was 8months and one week along. She had high blood pressure and some liver enzyme problem.  She was put on bed rest two weeks ago.  I am praying for their loss and that the God of peace and understanding  will be with them now. As I am writing this she is getting ready to deliver.  To end this blog I will leave you with some pictures of this past weekend.

Weekend

This weeked was a very emotional and tiring weekend. I went to a funeral and a wedding on Saturday, talk about a weird transition.  I was so glad that I was able to be there for my student who lost her father.  She seemed very apreciative.  As soon as I left the funeral I headed over to Westbury to attend a wedding for one of the faculty at Westbury, Coach O.  It was a beautiful cermony.  However I could help but think that the little girl from my class, wont have the oppertunity to have her dad walk her down the aisle.  I am still at a loss to what was going on in this family to cause such a drastic and life altering event.  Everything I heard about the father was that he was a man of great faith and would do anything for anyone, and then he takes his own life. I guess we will never know or understand.  I pray that this upcoming week is a little less eventful and that I will have time to relax. I also pray for my student as she willl be returning to school very soon.

Councelor

Today went well with the councelor coming to our class. This was truely an answered prayer. We did have a few students who were pretty upset afterwards but overall  they took the news well.  Next step is handling the situation once my student returns back to school, and from what I have been told that wont be much longer.  On a lighter note I got a new phone last night. I got a LG Xenon, its pretty cool. I love the touch screen and keypad features.  Well I don have anymore to say for now.  Prayers are coveted in the difficult time. Thanks

Tragedy

Today, Monday January 25, I found out that one of my students fathers commited suicide over the weekend.  This is something I have a hard time concieving.  How can one person inflict so much pain on others, in what I would consider to be a very selfish act.  This man leaves behind a teenage son and a nine year old daughter.  Can ones life ever be that messed up that it would be better off not living at all?  This s going to be a real struggle for the family for a long time and they definatly need prayers. Our school will also need prayers in how to deal with the situation when the daughter returns.  I love this little girl just as I love all my students. Pray that we know the right things to do or say. I am finding difficult to think straight about this at the moment and pray God will grant me peace and clarity over this situation.  May God bless and comfort this family.

Update

A lot has gone on over this past year and since my previous blog attempt.  The main exciting thing is I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Miranda Grace Semanek.  She is now 10 1/2 months old.  Another big thing is that Matt left Westbury to find a job that pays a little more. He is still job searching but we trust God is saving the right job just for him.  We are attending a wonderful church and have family and friends who love us very much. It has been a wonderful fun filled year.  So if I can figure it out pictures of the past 10 months will be posted here.

Attempt to blog

Here is my 2nd attempt at keeping a blog after failed attempt 1. I am not much of a blogger usually. I like the idea of it but the time it takes usually proves to escape me. I will try my best to keep up with this blog. I have had to change the address and name because I forgot what my username and password was for my previous blog. Oh well I will blog some more later and update with some pictures. Till then....
